Spinal Fusion
Spinal Fusion
Spinal Fusion has been used for over 50 years for many spinal disorders. During this procedure, the disks and/or the joint of the spinal are removed and fused together using bone grafts and medical devices such as plates and screws. These devices are placed to internally immobilize the spine at the segment being fused much like a cast is placed on a broken bone. Spinal fusion is very effective at treating painful conditions caused by instability of the spine or destructive processes like fractures or cancers. In many cases, spinal fusion is combined with other treatments to decompress the nerves or spinal cord.
Why you should choose spinal fusion
- Spinal Fusion has been shown to be effective in treating back and neck pain due to longstanding or recurrent problems with the disk
- Fusion is most effective at treating issues with abnormal motion of the spine due to longstanding damage to the joints or ligaments. Most commonly this leads to slippage of the vertebrae (Spondylolisthesis or Scoliosis) which further compresses the nerves leading to more pain.
- Fusion is also effective in treatment of pain do to fractures or destructive processes like infection or cancer of the bones.
